ABSTRACT
Objective To explore the relationship between serum uric acid and fasting blood glucose ( FBG) in newly-diagnosed type 2 diabetes in regard to different genders. Methods In 282 patients of newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes(208 males and 74 females), detection of serum FBG, uric acid, creatinine, transaminases, blood lipids, etc were determined. FBG9. 0 mmol/L in 50 cases ( 31 males and 19 females). Results (1)Serum uric acid showed statistically significant difference in regard to sex[Male:(325. 82±92. 26)μmol/L, Female:(292. 26±76. 19)μmol/L, P<0. 01]. (2) FBG and serum uric acid were negatively related(r=-0. 316, P<0. 01). (3) FBG and serum uric acid were negatively related both in male(r=-0. 320, P<0.01)andinfemale(r=-0.291,P<0.05). (4)Multiplestepwiseregressionanalysisshowedthatthethreegroups of FBG and serum uric acid showed regression relationship in male and female patients(P<0. 01). Conclusion With the increased FBG, serum uric acid was decreased in both males and females. Therefore, serum uric acid might serve as a potential biomarker of glucose metabolism.

Objective To investigate the effect of duodenal-jejunal bypass(DJB) on glucose metabolism and the expression of ileum proglucagon mRNA in Goto-Kakizaki (GK) type 2 diabetic rats.Methods 18 male GK rats and 1 8 male Wistar rats were randomly divided into 4 groups:GK operation group(group A),GK sham operation group(group B),Wistar operation group (group C),Wistar sham operation group (group D).There were 9 rats in each group.The fasting blood glucose and GLP-1 levels were measured before and at the 8th weekafter surgery.Oral glucose tolerance test was measured,and the area under blood glucose concentration curve wascalculated.Ileum tissues were obtained 8 weeks postoperatively and reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reac-tion was used to detect ileum PG mRNA expression after the operation.Results At the 8th week after surgery,the fasting blood glucose of group A decreased from(8.73 ± 1.30) mmol/L to(5.86 ±0.57) mmol/L(P ＜0.05).Area under blood glucose concentration curve decreased from preoperative(60.23 ± 5.14)mmol · h/L to (47.80 ±1.79) mmol· h/L(P ＜ 0.05).Fasting serum GLP-1 in group A increased from (7.69 ± 0.74) pmol/L to (29.00 ±4.85) pmol/L while postprandial GLP-1 increased from(15.74 ± 5.71) pmol/L to (45.78 ± 7.26) pmol/L (P ＜0.05).At the 8th week after surgery,the ileum PG mRNA level in group A was significantly higher than that in group B(P ＜ 0.05).Conclusions DJB can directly improve glucose metabolism in non-obese type 2 diabetic rats,and the operation has no hypoglycemic effect on normal blood glucose.The increased expression of ileum PG mRNA might contribute to the hypoglycemic effect of the surgery.

Objective To investigate the status quo of quality of life and family environment of children and adolescents with diabetes, also to explore the relationship between family environment and the quality of life, so as to give some support for family nursing. Methods A total of 58 diabetic children and adolescents were asked to complete Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory,meanwhile their parents were asked to complete the family environment scale, relativity of life quality of diabetic children and adolescents with family environment was analyzed. Results The physical function, school function, psychosocial health and total quality of life of diabetic children and adolescents' were lower than healthy children; family conflicts and control were higher than normal, while knowledge was lower than normal. Their quality of life was positively correlated with family knowledge and control, family control and success contributed a lot to life quality. Conclusions The health professionals should improve the communication between children and parents, sharing the diabetes responsibility, reduce the family conflict, in order to manage diabetes effectively and improve the quality of life.

Objective: To investigate Leptin resistance of patients with metabolic syndrome. Methods: 50 patients with metabolic syndrome and 30 health persons as control were investigated. Body mass index(BMI)、waist to hip ratio(WHR)、blood pressure(Bp) were recorded. Objective:To study the insulin resistance and leptin resistance in women with polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS).Methods:Body mass index(BMI),serum leptin,fasting blood glucose(FBG),fasting insulin(FINS),serum triglyceride,total cholesterol,high-density lipoprotein,low-density lipoprotein and insulin resistance index(HOMA-IR) were assessed in 30 normal women,30 simple obesity women and 41 PCOS women.Results:①The PCOS patients showed higher levels of BMI,serum leptin,FINS,HOMA-IR and low-density lipoprotein,and lower levels of high-density lipoprotein than that in normal control.Compared to simple obesity women,there only showed higher FINS level and lower BMI in PCOS women.②Serum leptin levels in PCOS patients were concerned with BMI、FINS、HOMA-IR and serum triglyceride levels.③There were no significant difference of the FINS and HOMA-IR between normal women and non obese PCOS women,but the obese PCOS women showed higher levels of FINS and HOMA-IR than that in simple obesity women;the serum leptin levels showed no significant difference between normal women and non-obese PCOS women,simple obesity women and obese PCOS women. Conclusion:PCOS patients may have insulin resistance and leptin resistance;There may have regulative effect between leptin resistance and insulin resistance in PCOS patients;There are direct relationship between insulin resistance and PCOS;The rise of serum leptin level in PCOS women may be the assident manifestation of obesity.

The hormone ghrelin is secreted mainly by stomach ,and is the only nature ligand that had been found by now for growth hormone releasing hormone receptor. Although the action for stimulating the secretion of growth hormone is very strong, it's only one part of ghrelin's action. It has many other actions in pathology and physiology, some of which are independent of it's stimulation to growth hormone releasing, such as regulating appetite, maintaining the energy equilibrium etc. We can find ghrelin's action in many human disease.
